Questions
How many sessions will I need?
That depends on your situation; some rare people only need a single session, a sort of tune-up for an upcoming life situation, while others have needed a lot more.
What kind of therapy do you use?
We rely primarily on Adlerian style Cognitive Therapy (also called Individual Psychology; please see Psychotherapy?). However, it is an adaptable therapy to meet the needs of the client.
Do I lie on a couch?
If you like. But that was a psychoanalytic technique Freud used quite a long time ago. We prefer face-to-face discussion.
How long are the sessions?
Each session is 45-50 minutes long. For family counselling a double session is usually booked.
What if I don’t live in the Greater Toronto-Hamilton Area?
No problem. We are available for sessions by telephone and webcam networking.
Do I need to be a referred by a physician?
No, you do not need a referral, but we welcome referrals, especially from physicians.
Do you see children?
Of course, it is one of our most enjoyable counselling encounters. We see children and their parents regarding a lot of matters including: abuse issues, power issues, underachievement and ADD.
What about teens?
Yes! And if your teenager won’t come in to see us, we have been known to go and see them – wherever they hang out.
Are you covered by insurance?
If your insurance coverage includes psychologists or psychotherapists or chiropractors or physiotherapists, the answer is certainly yes, and we are covered under other designations as well. We find we are covered in most extended care cases.
Do I have a problem?
Ask yourself this: Is there a gap between your life as you believe it could be and your day-to-day reality?
Do we have a problem in our marriage?
Who doesn't? Relationships are about, in part, the struggle over who is right. Everyone struggles. However, the greater your struggle (i.e. intensity, frequency, duration), the greater your problem.
Do you prescribe medication?
Though we have an MD in our office, it is not generally our practice to prescribe medication, instead, we liaise with your family physician.
What is your privacy policy?
Our policy is not to reveal our clients names without expressed written consent.
